Current Situation Samsungs Position Marketing Essay

Current Situation Samsungs Position Marketing Essay Samsungs Position in 2003, was strong as compared to its current situation. Its stock was one of the most widely held amongst the companies emerging in the market as more than half of its shares were outside of Korea, its home country. In 2003, Business week ranked Samsung 25th most valuable brand from 34th position in 2002 and with a fast growing brand value compared to its competitor Sony. In the electronics Industry both Samsung and Sony are leading names and as the electronic industry requires heavy emphasis on research and development, transitions on market and to optimize supply chains. New innovations in technology runs the consumer electronic industry. Samsung uses its traditional in-house RD instead of outsourcing it from Business partners as outsourcing transfer capital investment has lower risk to other companies but has high cost, however the risk involved is lower. Samsung operates on the virtual integration model which has leveraged all the aspects of the manufacturing process from raw- materials to fully assembled products. Keeping the cost down from what it would be if being outsourced, Samsung reduced costs further by off-shoring efforts. As in off-shoring a firm uses its own assets and locates Business units in places such that it has lower costs of production, for this purpose Samsung has placed its plants in China and India. Out of the two core marketing groups of Samsung, one in Korea and the other one for rest of the world, Samsung consolidated to use a single ensure worldwide brand consistency in 2001. A percentage of the current sales of 2003 were set aside for marketing, reallocations were also made to market research to identify if marketing funds could be used to achieve high returns. SWOT: Strengths: Has a wide range of products such as mobile phones, camera, home appliance and other devices. Enjoys advantage over a few electronic items by introducing advanced features in LCD, refrigerator, Air Conditioner etc. Holds significant market share in many product Categories. Does RD to keep innovating its products and to be ahead from its competitors and to be first in the market with new range of products. Weakness: Caused product CANNIBALIZATION due to launch of series of smart phones. Lack of product software for which it has to depend on other companies. Competitors like SONY and APPLE who have their own products as well as software. Other Areas of business like Chemicals, Machinery Heavy Industry, financial Services unknown to the Public. Opportunities: Continue sponsoring major events like Olympics in order to spread brand equity and to increase sales and cut competition. Develop its own unique software in order to keep up with competitors and to make itself independent from other software oriented companies. Should increase its spending on advertising and market its products more. Threats: Recent tie up of Google and Motorola where Google has decided to sell its software only to Motorola, without its own software its very difficult for Samsung to survive in future competition. Increasing competition from APPLE and SONY. Amount of money spent in RD for product innovation and creation on new and unique products is huge, which other companies save by reverse engineering Samsungs products. Strategic Brand Management Brand Building in order to increase promotional costs and decrease revenues by sacrificing certain product lines and with the digital revolution going on a new opportunity window is there to dominate consumer electronics market. Doing so without proper precautions can cause the company some irreparable damage. The need for advertisement and promotion is a must for the company in order to increase the awareness among consumers. Though advertisement and promotion of Samsung depends on the activities done by it in the particular region. Activities carried out by the company can have both positive and negative impacts such as promotional materials intended and developed for one countrys market can limit its ability to develop promotional campaigns made specifically for another market. Samsungs competitive advantage led to unique breeding environment for innovation, RD and the production of new technology should be preserved therefore, all new products should be kept in a safe location e. g. in the Korean Headquaters. Recommendations: Moving away from the supplier mentality Samsung should de-emphasize the importance of new products, though innovation of products has brought Samsung great wealth, Samsung can still survive in the market by cutting costs spent in RD of new technology and let the market forces be the driving force in the development of new technology. Training of internal staff in making use of effective marketing as it is related to other areas of Business, especially development. First-hand knowledge of the development process should benefit the marketing team as they should know what a delay in research can mean to the project. Development of a career path in marketing and a formal structure for Samsung employees would demonstrate to the company a commitment to marketing, which would serve as a recruiter and developer to grow new marketing talent. Marketing professionals if retained within a structured environment would help Samsung further to continue build consistency with its brand identity. Use of interactive marketing such as making of online ad campaigns on frequently visited websites like Youtube, where the viewer should be able to interact with the help of annotation feature. Where multiple options should be given and if any of the options is chosen then each option should open a new video. Should move its product from price-driven stores to more focused retailers. Implementation: To make the selling of developed products easier the resources should be shifted from RD to marketing which would increase the return of RD spending. Samsung should know that branding is as important as the high quality of the products that Samsung supplies. Partnership with a Chinese firm can help reduce the labour costs related to production of legacy products without compromising on the valuable intellectual property. Samsung besides being in partnership with the Chinese, cannot forget that the Chinese can still prove as competitors which can harm their business. Therefore the company should keep a strong focus on maintaining its technological leadership by pursuing cutting-edge RD, especially towards future substitutes for DRAMS. One more way to reduce the chances of development of competition, though more risky and should be applied with care is to surpass new market entrants by lowering margins on low-end DRAMs. The profit will not be more but Samsungs name and the build quality of their products will push the competitors towards more or less operational losses, at the same time itll ensure that Samsung will still be able to earn on the other products from its wide range of portfolio.

Texting and Driving Should Be Banned

Have you ever considered reading a book while driving? If not then why would you text and drive? Driving is something that requires your full attention. When you open up your cell phone to send a text or receive a text then you might as well get out a book and start reading. Suppose you are driving down the road and your phone alerts you that you have a text message coming in, when you grab for that phone you are a victim of visual, cognitive, and manual distraction. Many people have lost their lives due to visual distraction. When you take your eyes off of the road, it only takes one second to cause an accident. I am sure if sixteen year old Ashley Johnson could start her day over she would. On May the 15 this exceptional, popular tenth grader had been texting while driving when she hit a pickup head on. She was in critical care for several days before dying sustained to injuries that occur during her accident. Not only did she lose her life but someone lost their daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend. If only she could have waited until she stopped driving. Patrick Sims is another prime example of why you should not text and drive. Patrick and his girlfriend were driving down the road the day before Thanksgiving. Patrick was texting a friend when his girlfriend started screaming, as he looked up there was a bicyclist so close to the front of his vehicle that he could not avoid hitting him. This was a sixty three year old grandfather that was out riding his bike for health reasons, minding his own business. Now this is something that this young man has to deal with for the rest of his life. He told CBS during an interview that he wished that he could have another chance; he also told them that the image of this man lying on the street dead would never leave his mind. I remember texting one time while I was driving and it was the first time and the last. I got a text message and I wasn’t going to read it but I was scared it was my mom or about my mom because she was sick. I was going to wait till I stopped at the red-light to check it but it was just too tempting to wait so I grabbed my phone to read my text when I ran off of the side of the road. That was a stupid decision on my behalf. It was only my niece wanting to know what I was doing. It was not just my life in danger it was also my children’s. I decided that day that I would never read a text again while driving. I am just thankful and fortunate that I got another chance. I honestly believe when you put yourself or someone else’s life in jeopardy by texting it is not an accident. You know exactly what you are doing when you open that phone and start typing or reading. Texting should not be just ban from people that drive automobiles but it should also be for people who drive trains and buses. It is a cognitive distraction when you take your mind off of what you are doing. On September the twelfth two thousand and ten, Robert Sanchez a commuter train engineer started his day like every other day. I’m sure when he left his home that morning he never thought it would be his last day returning home. During the day Robert was texting and receiving text from a young guy who he mentors. Robert did not yield and hit a freight train head on killing twenty five people and injuring eighty more. Roberts’s life was taking that day instantly. His life was taken just because he answered a text letting this young boy know where he was. This could have been prevented. Not only is his family grieving but so are all of the innocent lives that were taking that day. If you feel like you are too tempted to text while driving then you need to turn off your phone until you get stopped or put it away where you cannot reach it. Texting don’t only cause you to take your mind off of your driving but when your texting you don’t have on your hands on the wheel. When you are driving it is important that you drive with your hands not your knees or your forearm. I’m sure some people don’t think manual distraction is such a big issue when it comes to driving, but trust me it is. It is just as important as visual or cognitive distraction. Any time that you are driving you need to avoid all three distractions. You have a better chance reacting to a situation if you are driving with both hands. I know a young lady that went to school with my nephew. She was driving home one day after school, it was her and her little brother Ben. Sarah was texting while driving, Ben said that she had her knee up under the steering wheel driving and she came upon a curve and she just couldn’t react fast enough and lost control, she was killed. Her brother survived this terrible tragedy physically but not mentally. It has been ten years now and this young man is still seeing his sister lay beside him in this car bleeding from the head and not responsive. I feel like people are just selfish when it comes to texting. I know a lot of people don’t think about the consequences but it’s time that people wake up and see what texting and driving can do to families. I understand that texting is the new fad and some people rather text then talk. Texting is not a necessity to life. Many people have lost their lives because they made the wrong choice. I’m sure if the victims that have been involved in a misfortune could have another chance to drive without texting and take more responsibility for their actions they would. Driving is something that takes all the attention you can offer. That includes watching where you’re going, keeping your mind on what you’re doing and keeping both hands where they need to be. If you feel like you just can’t wait to text pull over to a safe place and text. Before you text and drive again visualize a loved one in your life and ask yourself this question, is it fair to them that I am being so selfish, not caring if I take my life or someone else’s life? I promise you that you’re not going to die if you have to wait to text but if you don’t wait to text you will definitely die.

The World Of 1984 Could It Be Our Own - 1227 Words

The World of 1984: Could It Be Our Own? The frightening thing was that it might all be true. If the Party could thrust its hand into the past and say of this or that event, IT NEVER HAPPENED--that, surely, was more terrifying than mere torture and death? [sic] —Orwell 72 Orwell’s novel, 1984, is well known to be a dystopia that perhaps is not so far out of reach of current society. Unlike most dystopias written today, it would take no major cataclysmic event to reach the world of Winston Smith and Big Brother, only a gradual decline into total governmental control and lack of free thought. The quote above demonstrates a very good example of the horrors of Winston’s world. However, if one were to give the passage a more thorough train of thought, he or she may realize something even more unsettling. He or she may stumble upon the thought that says, â€Å"Hey...doesn’t that already happen?† Truly, it is very possible that Orwell’s dystopia is not an end-of-the-world scenario at all. Rather, Orwell’s 1984 may be the world of the present. Several of the predictions made by George Orwell in 1984 have since started to become a horrifying reality—the most notable of these including his observation of the fals ification of media and the distortion of reality that comes with it, his theory of Newspeak and the destruction of language that closely resembles modern SMS Language/ â€Å"textese† (depending, of course, on who one would ask), and his predictions of a Big Brother that is alwaysShow MoreRelatedAnalysis Of George Orwell s Brave New World And 19841400 Words   |  6 PagesB.N.W. v.s. 1984 Synthesis Essay Hypothesis become theories and theories become laws. My Brother Mitchell Handles The Athletics Scene Better...

Before we start this final chapter, can you believe we’ve made it? Twenty chapters at twenty years old, and here comes number twenty-one. I believe there’s no better way to end this book than to declare, with boundless joy, the glory of God. When life gets good, glory can get in the way of things. Even as I finish this book, I wonder whom I will meet and help because of this. However, God’s Will for the last twenty-one chapters has everything to do with Him and little to do with me. It’s a battle we face every day, especially for young men. Whenever we do things people value or applaud, we think it’s us who they cheer for. My brother Mitchell handles the athletics scene better than anyone I know. After pitching against Texas AM in the†¦show more content†¦Every time he thought he would be ready to make his comeback, another setback occurred. It reached the point where he began to feel dead inside. God lovingly restored Mitchell’s health, but more importantly, his heart, when He brought him out on the mound this year. He stopped trying to light up radar guns and started trying to become an effective pitcher – to perfect the craft God gifted him with. At this moment, he became what Kirk Saarloos, his pitching coach, would probably call a â€Å"pitcher† not a â€Å"thrower.† In one season of collegiate baseball, Mitchell became nominated as a top-60 player finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, which goes to the best player in all of college baseball. He received all-Big 12 honors at the end of the season. He put his team in a position to send them to Omaha, and eventually helped eliminate LSU, while competing in the College World Series. That’s quite the resume for one year of collegiate baseball. The day after we beat Texas AM, Mitchell and I drove home for the 2015 MLB Draft. While he received the chance to become a professional baseball player at this time, Mitchell declined the opportunity. It’s not as crazy as it sounds. As he sat in our living room under pressure with phone calls coming in, he continued to say the decision needed to be made out of faith, not fear. So, he decided to return to TCU for another season, where God will use Mitchell mightily as a
